Holland America Line's 2026 Solar Eclipse Cruises: A Unique Celestial Experience

Holland America Line is set to offer a unique travel experience in 2026 with three special cruises designed to place guests directly in the path of a total solar eclipse.

These cruises are part of the line’s Celestial Cruises series, which focuses on astronomical events. Bookings for these cruises will open on July 31.

Experience the 2026 Total Solar Eclipse at Sea

The 2026 total solar eclipse won’t be visible from the United States, but Holland America Line is providing an exciting opportunity to view this celestial event.

The cruise line is offering three different itineraries that will ensure passengers are in the path of totality, including a round-trip voyage from Boston, Massachusetts. These cruises are part of a broader series cantered on astronomical phenomena.

Holland America Line is set to offer a unique travel experience in 2026 with three special cruises designed to place guests directly in the path of a total solar eclipse.

Beth Boden Steiner, Holland America's chief commercial officer, expressed enthusiasm about the new offerings.

"Following the excitement and success of our 2024 eclipse cruises, we recognized a strong interest from our guests for more opportunities to witness these extraordinary natural events," she said. "Our new line-up not only promises prime eclipse viewing but also offers deep exploration of fascinating destinations along with the premium onboard experience we are known for."

Unique Benefits of Eclipse Cruises

Cruise ships offer an unparalleled way to experience an eclipse, providing panoramic views and the flexibility to navigate to the best viewing locations based on current weather conditions. This ability to "chase" the eclipse ensures guests can witness the event in optimal conditions.

Adam Burgasser, a professor of astronomy and astrophysics at the University of California, San Diego, highlighted this advantage. He served as an onboard expert during a previous Holland America eclipse cruise. "Being able to adjust the ship’s position based on weather conditions to ensure the best viewing experience is a significant benefit," he noted.

Additional Celestial Cruise Experiences

In addition to the 2026 solar eclipse cruises, Holland America Line will also offer a series of Northern Lights sailings and an itinerary celebrating the summer solstice above the Arctic Circle. These cruises will feature scientific specialists, themed lectures, and activities. Eclipse glasses will be provided, ensuring guests have all they need to safely enjoy the spectacle.

While specific pricing details have not yet been released, bookings for the 2026 eclipse cruises will open on July 31. Members of Holland America’s Mariner Society loyalty program who book by October 29 can receive up to $400 in onboard credit per cabin.
